Bradford Children & Families Trust celebrated the vital role that foster carers across the district play in improving the lives of children and young people as part of the annual Foster Care Fortnight campaign with a party at Bradford Fo(r)ster Square Train Station to launch the Trust’s fostering agency, Foster for Bradford.
This Foster Care Fortnight has all been about raising awareness
Working with local train operator Northern, Bradford Forster Square train station has been temporarily rebranded as Bradford FOSTER Square during Foster Care Fortnight to highlight the need for more foster carers in Bradford.
Signs in the station have been temporarily changed to show the name and explain why Northern are supporting the campaign to raise awareness about fostering in Bradford.
It was all about the trains!
Foster for Bradford and Northern invited Bradford’s foster families to Bradford FOSTER Square station one Sunday in May to celebrate the start of the new fostering agency.
The party involved children being entertained on a train sitting in the station, including children in the driving cabin, meeting Whistle the Northern mascot and being wowed by magic tricks provided by Paul Sunderland (AKA Tall Paul), a Northern conductor and part-time magician.
Outside the station, families were kept entertained with food, ice creams and drinks in the hot sunshine, playing games, face painting, soft play and arts and crafts. A highlight of the party was when British Transport Police turned up in a squad car, letting the children sit in it and turn on the lights and siren. And cake - there was lots of birthday cake for everyone of course.
It was a wonderful day out for our fostering families had a great time.

“Our foster carer community is made up of the most wonderfully committed and compassionate foster carers.
“Children and young people flourish in supportive, nurturing, and stable homes and foster carers make that happen for children who have had a difficult start.
“If you’ve ever considered fostering, then now is the right to come forward and make a real difference to the lives of children and young people from our community. We need 45 new fostering families every year to ensure that children are able to stay in Bradford.”
